Newsletter – Term 3 Week 2, 2023

July 19, 2023

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents & Guardians
Welcome to Week 2 of Term 2

It was wonderful to attend the NAIDOC Mass at Holy Family Church last week with our Indigenous students.  The celebration was wonderful with this year’s theme being: FOR OUR ELDERS.

I would also like to congratulate past Joey’s student and current TCC Year 9 student, William Littleboy who was awarded a Catholic Education scholarship.

Our students were beautifully behaved and represented our school and their culture with great pride.

Congratulations to our staff and students who competed at the 17th annual Challenge Cup last week.  The three days were hugely successful with the netball team placing 3rd overall out of 32 teams and the rugby league team placing 4th overall out of 24 teams.  This is a massive achievement with Joey’s PA being the 15th biggest school to nominate for the tournament.

Even more impressive was the fact that out of all the schools competing, Joey’s placed equal 2nd overall with St Anthony’s in the Challenge Cup. Winners were Emmanuel Mackay placing 1st in rugby league and 4th in netball.  It is also worth noting that Emmanuel and St Anthony’s at nearly six hundred students each are nearly double the size of Joey’s.  Our little school always performs well against the biggest schools in our Diocese.  Congratulations to all who were involved.

This week I’ve commenced interviews with the new families that have applied to Prep in 2024.  As I will be conducting these interviews continuously over the next four weeks, I may not be as readily available as usual.  If you do have a concern during this time, please contact Mrs Senini or Mrs Carter through the school office during this time.

Congratulations to Peter Doherty who will be ordained as a Deacon tomorrow at 11am at St Joseph’s Cathedral.  We look forward to working, worshiping and celebrating in the future with Peter as he journeys on his path to priesthood.

I have started to compile a list of dates through to the end of this Term and will add to it each week as new events are confirmed.
